Joelle, from Oldham, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

We decided to re-create an Afternoon Tea box as a Fathers Day gift for Grandad (and one for Nana for putting up with Grandad). I had previously seen the idea on a FB book site and we decided by creating our own it would allow us to include items that Grandad would really enjoy. The box was purchased from Ebay, 12 hole cupcake boxes with clear window.
We included the following items in our box:
Ham & Egg mayo sandwiches (crusts removed)
Scone, miniature jam and clotted cream. We purchased the mini jams from Aldi (special item) however I believe Morrisons do them as well. I already had little white ramakins in the cupboard for the cream, I had purchased 12 of theses from Amazon previously.
Millionaire shortbread/Tunnocks Tea cakes/Fondant fancies/hog roast sausage roll/mini pork pie/strawberries/Lemon curd yogurt, cheese & a mini prosecco for Nana & small beer for Grandad.

All our food/drink items were purchased from Aldi which worked out at approx. £8 per box.

Buying everything on the day we were gifting the boxes ensured the products were all fresh. My daughter took great pleasure in picking the products to go in the boxes and designing the layout. Delivering the boxes by car, on our laps, was risky at times but they thankfully arrived all in one piece. The Grandparents were over the moon with their Afternoon Tea.
To make it even more personnel it would have been lovely to have included a few home baked items, however time was limited.

Do you have any other projects planned?

Next project is doing a larger Afternoon Tea for mums 70th birthday. We hope to have a small garden party.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

I have been working from home 80% of the time during lockdown and going in to the office the remaining 20%. Trying to juggle work and keeping a 13 year motivated to do school work has not been easy at times.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Try not to sweat the small stuff.
Limit screen time if possible, I find my daughter turns into a zombie otherwise.

Has this website and community helped you?

Housebound With Kids is a great source of ideas for parents. Coming up with interesting/creative things to do with your child/children is difficult so having this site on hand is a great tool.
