Thank you to Anji and family, from North Wales, who have provided details of their alphabet scavenger hunt.

Tell us about the alphabet scavenger hunt…

What you’ll need:

  • A camera/camera phone
  • Your home/garden

The sun was shining, so we decided to explore the garden to find objects that looked like letters.

We only expected to find a couple, but surprisingly found a whole alphabet (a couple are a little dubious, but the boys were so proud of them we had to include them).

What started as a little bit of ‘homework’, quickly became a fun family challenge, and, as always with two boys, became a competition/race to find the ‘best letters’.

Super easy to do, and a lot more fun and engaging than I expected too.

We also decided to order the many ‘letters’ to spell out their names, and then the names of their favourite cartoon characters.

This could also be done indoors on a rainy day, with objects/toys/food around the house.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Hi, I’m Anji, the proud (and often exhausted) mum of two boys, aged 7 & 8. We live in a sunny corner of North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

How are you finding being housebound with kids?

I’m only housebound half of the week. I am also a key worker 3 days a week, trying my best to juggle my time and emotions effectively for everyone. It’s challenging at times, but am enjoying the opportunity to have so much time together as a family.

Do you have any tips that you can share with the community?

I find it good to keep a little bit of routine and structure, but not too much, it’s odd times for the children too, so Fun and laughter together is so much more important.

We do a little bit of school work here and there, but seriously, don’t stress too much, kids are like sponges, they’ll soon soak up and learn the things they’ve missed at school.

We’ve also found it helpful to let the boys chose topics they enjoy, and fitter learning around that. E,g we watched Aladdin movie, then did some learning about genies, wishes, travel, etc.

Any final thoughts?

I love the support and community of HBWK. I’ve picked up so many ideas of activities, games, and fun family stuff. It’s also reassuring to hear that lots of others share the same worries and stresses.
