Sarah, from Stockton-on-Tees, created a beach at home.  Let’s take a look…

What did you do?

I made homemade sand.  I did this by putting old cereal in a blender. I added sea shells and painted letters on them.  I used foil for the sea with stones to create rock pools and I added in some water beads.

The homemade sand was as effective for mark making as I thought. My five year old enjoyed making words from the shells he found. My three year old loved all the textures.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

We are enjoying the extra time together and over the last few weeks we have managed to get into a sort of routine/rhythm with us all being at home more.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

I have found the days are easier when the kids get outside. Even if it’s just for a few minutes in poor weather. It’s an opportunity to burn off energy which they can’t do in the house. We sometimes have just walked round the streets where we live.
