Lauren, from East Morton, had a Harry Potter themed birthday surprise for her daughter. Let’s take a look at what she did…

What did you do?

We surprised my daughter by turning out living room into a Slytherin common room for her birthday!

We made a den from large cardboard packing boxes and painted/decorated it with a Slytherin theme – complete with a fireplace!

We recreated the scene from Harry Potter with flying envelopes, using birthday cards. We did this by hanging them from the ceiling with fine fishing wire and sellotape.

We also recreated Hagrids birthday cake for Harry and made a Slytherin unicorn cake!

We used Harry Potter items we already had in the house as props .

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I live near Bingley in West Yorkshire. I have 3 children and 2 step children aged between 7 and 19.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

I am a key worker so I’m trying really hard to balance being at work and keeping the kids occupied and entertained! We are trying our best to make the most of the time we have together.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Keep busy and try to enjoy this time together.

Has being part of our community helped you?

I have gotten ideas for things to make and do with the kids.
