Saba, from West Bromwich, buzzed over this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

🐝

Zakariyya and I have been buzzing following an introduction to some basic melittogy . After some essential book research and the accompanying book related activities, we were able to comprehend the life cycle of a bee and then modelled this using sweets, paper and the humble bog roll.

I helped Zakariyya understand the anatomical differences between worker, queen and drone bees with a visual resource I had made and we discussed bees as the key workers for pollination. We were even fortunate to see the process of pollination in real life! We followed this off with a flower threading board made out of cardboard which helped hone Zakariyya’s fine motor skills.

Zakariyya loved finding wild flowers and then threading them to make a pretty picture. (Be careful when picking flowers, as some can be poisonous).

He also loved spotting the anatomical differences between queen, drone and worker bees from the resource I had made.

Do you have any other projects planned?

I think Zakariyya and I will be doing a scavenger hunt of items around the house then identifying where they are sourced from using a globe.

We might then learn a little more about the country of origin such as landmarks, favourite food, language etc.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m Saba and I am full time mom to 4 year old Zakariyya and a part time dialysis nurse. We are based in the U.K.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

As a key worker, there haven’t been many changes to our lives.

During lockdown however, I spent more time planning indoor activities and I’ve started to enjoy crafts as much as my son.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Make learning fun! It might take more time to plan but that effort definitely pays off,

Has this website and community helped you?

Great website with lots of super ideas! I’m intending to steal quite a few ideas.
