Becky, from Suffolk, England, has fun with her family playing in puddles. Let’s read on…

What did you do?

Using brooms to sweep puddles is great fun as well as promoting physical development for children’s gross motor skills.
Adding washing up liquid makes bubbly frothy puddles. You can also add food colouring or powder paint to puddles. When the children sweep puddles and they mix together they get to experience colour mixing in a different way.

The children find this a really exciting experience and it’s a way to encourage outdoor play even in wet conditions.
Puddle suits and wellies are advised to keep clothing dry and clean.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

I am loving having my whole family together, we have enjoyed some quality time together and I think it’s been beneficial for my 2 year old, his communication and language has come on so much during this time. We have enjoyed walks and exercising together as a family.

There have also been some trying times too. My eldest has found it easier than my 9 year old; she is able to stay in contact more easily with friends as she has her own phone so video calls them regularly. My 9 year old son has found home becoming school tough, he has worked hard with his school work but it has definitely been a battle at times and his mental health has definitely been affected. He is missing football and his competitive sports he takes part in regularly as well as being with his friends.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

There is a lot of inspiration on Social Media and the internet where you can find activities that will interest your children. I love setting up activities for my 2 year old to come down to each morning, he is engaged straight away which allows more time to start my older two off on their school work. Getting out for a walk or fresh air in the garden each day helps everyone feel better and is a chance to escapes everyone’s work for a bit.
