Taylor, from UK, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

We tried this daisy threading activity for the first time recently, as it’s been on my list to try with ‘A’ for some time!

I cut out some toddler sized squares from a cardboard box, then I drew with a marker a different shape and it’s name on the cutouts. Once all cutouts had been drawn on, I used a small/medium screwdriver to puncture the holes around the drawn shapes (make sure they are big enough for your Daisy’s to slot through).

I showed ‘A’ the aim of this activity first, then she got stuck into it and was determined to slot the daisy threads into the holes. She found some of the holes quite tricky and got frustrated when she couldn’t slot the daisy’s in. But I encouraged her to try again, by getting her to pick another daisy or trying another hole.
She also enjoyed shape spotting with these cardboard cutouts, she was shouting ‘shapes’ and running around with them for the rest of the day, once I put the daisies back into the garden.

My plan was to do it outside, but ‘A’ was too distracted with the outdoors, that she ignored the activity I set up. So I brought it inside and did it with her once she was settled indoors.

I’m looking forward trying this one out again soon, as I feel it’s one that ‘A’ would be really good at, if she practiced it a few more times.

Do you have any other projects planned?

My next project is to make a mini bee hive play activity.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

I am a stay at home mum anyway, but have missed being able to take my daughter out to the park and socialising with her friends and family.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

It can be tough at times for both child and parent. Remember you don’t need to do activities everyday, as you both will want a break at times, so don’t pressure yourself! Sometimes a chill day is what you both need.

Has this website and community helped you?

It is a fantastic site connecting people In a time of need and helping inspire parents/guardians with a range of different and unique activities for all ages!
