Beth, from United Kingdom, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

My little boy loves Duplo so I always try to think of different ways to for him play with it to keep things fresh.
I added some small square pieces to a large board with gaps in between and added some hair bobbles so he could stretch the bobbles across the pieces and use It as a geoboard. He enjoyed making shapes and it was really good for fine motor skills development.

The bobbles worked well but were too thick to add more than one on each circle. I think thinner elastic bands would work better, but just used what I had lying around.

Do you have any other projects planned?

My little boy is starting school in September so I’ve got lots of letter and number recognition games planned to support him.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m Beth! I have two little ones. A boy who is 4 and a girl who is nearly 2. I am a primary school teacher and have always enjoyed creating activities for learning through play. In lockdown I decided to start keeping track of the different activities we were doing so created an instagram account. This has led me to find so many great ideas and I’ve had so much fun playing and learning with my little ones.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Im back at work in school now. I loved the extra time with my littles, especially with my eldest starting school in September. But it’s nice to be able to drink a hot cup of coffee now!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Cut yourself some slack! If you’re on this website looking for activities to help and engage your children, you are a brilliant parent!

Has this website and community helped you?
