Abeer, from Saudi Arabia, sent in this great caterpillar craft idea. The Very Hungry Caterpillar inspires so many play ideas! Let’s take a look…

What did you do?

I have used an egg carton to make a caterpillar.

We cut out and colored the numbers 1 to 6. Painted the pasta according to the colors of the numbers.

Set up the activity and have the child find out the correct color and number of pasta to fill in the caterpillar body.

This was an efficiency way of incorporating a number of learning opportunities in one activity.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I am a mother to 2 boys living in KSA. We are currently homeschooling our 3 and 5 year old.

I believe involving children in the learning process really helps them grasp concepts more swiftly hence we’re always on the go with play based activities.

It really helps to develop basic skills and create opportunities for a healthy physical and psychological development of a child.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

We’re getting used to it now, the kids have learnt to adapt to the situation and we’re always finding new stuff to do or discover and learn about at home.

Our reading times have increased and we’re learning to spend more time with books! Its been a lovely family bonding time.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Find fun opportunities be it big or small to keep the kids happy and busy.

Dont stress yourself on a routine take one day at a time. Its okay if things go chaotic in the beginning. This is new and it will take sometime for everyone to adapt and settle in the new norm.

Has this website and community helped you?

We love how this website provides a wide variety of options for helping parents plan activities for children.

Such a platform is a blessing when we are housebound with kids and are running out of ideas.
