Megan, from America and her husband who is Brazilian/German, are raising their three boys (all under the age of three) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. They have created such a fun sensory play using flowers and ice for them all to enjoy. Let’s see how it went…

What did you do?

I froze my Mother’s Day flowers that were starting to wilt in bowls. We put them in a container and poured some water inside to help melt them and they played with measuring cups and spoons. They banged the ice blocks with a hammer, fork, and chopsticks. We peeled back the roses one petal at a time and felt its textures, found its’ stamen inside, and smelt all the different kinds. Later we filled the container with more water and they sat inside and splashed around with the flowers in the cold water.

What’s your next project idea:

My next project using this container will be to fill with water beads and they can use different containers to fill them up and practice pouring.

How are you finding being housebound with kids so far?

Being housebound with the kids has its ups and downs. It’s frustrating, but we try to find joys throughout the day either by playing, cooking together, or watching our favourite movies (the Lion King being #1)

Any tips to help people when they are housebound with kids?

My tips during these trying times would be to try and not feel guilty. We’re all doing our best and sometimes our best is just letting kids be kids. There’s no such thing as too much screen time during a quarantine. Keep your heads up and stay safe and love yourselves.
