Helen, from Lancashire, talks about this great picture that her son, Matthew, created. Take a look…

Tell us a bit about yourself…

We are a family of 5 from Bolton-le-Sands, Lancashire. Our eldest child is Emma aged 15, then James 12 and Matthew aged 11 who created the seagull picture.

What did you do?

Picture made from natural things.

You will need:

  • some large pebbles
  • a few shells
  • a plastic bottle top
  • white petals from a flower in your garden (azalea worked well)
  • a dandelion, leaves from tree (red acers work well)
  • a bit of thin wood or a stick/twig

Instructions:

  1. First, get an A3 piece of blue card for your background.
  2. Place your pebbles at the bottom and add a few shells and the plastic bottle top.  Matthew also added some dying bits off our hydrangea bush.
  3. Add some leaves at the top left and place the top off a dandelion in the middle to make the sun.  We used red acer leaves which are great as they are pointed and add colour.
  4. To make the seagulls head, Matthew used 2 mussels and a tiny stone placed on top for the eye.
  5. Next add your long piece of wood or stick for the beak.
  6. Add white petals to make the body, he flattened his down a bit.
  7. Finally for the legs, he used dying twig bits off our hydrangea bush, sticks work just as well whatever you can find in your garden or on your daily walk.

You can add other bits you have and have fun using your imagination!  Be creative!

How are you finding being housebound?

We are keeping busy during lockdown with homeschooling but do lots of craft activities as well to wind down and relax. It really is surprising what you can achieve and make with simple things around you.

I love sharing ideas to help others and get inspiration from others too so websites like “Housebound with Kids,” are a great help for all parents and help us all along during this difficult time.
