Rozanne, who lives in the USA, shows us the sensory bin that she made. It has an aquatic theme. Read on…

What you will need:

  • A large container/bin
  • toy sea animals
  • toy pond animals
  • play sand
  • water (blue food coloring optional)
  • natural elements; for sea: shells, pond: stones, branches, water lilies!

How do I prepare the sensory bin?

Start with the base, that will be the play sand on one side and the (blue) water on the other side. If that is in place, add all the smaller items; animals and decorations.

I always go for: Less is more! Don’t overdo a sensory bin. Too many items can be confusing, in the way and leave no place for creativity and imaginary play!

What is next on your list?

There are so many wonderful ideas on my sensory bin list, but one I am looking forward to setting up is a cats and dogs bin, overall theme: Pets!

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I am Rozanne, a qualified Early Childhood Development teacher. I am from South Africa but now living in the United States.

I am a mom of two beautiful kids, Elon (3) and Lana (1)!

I am 35 years old and started Bright Little Brains (@bright_little_brains) to give busy parents hope and wonderful learning through play ideas!

How are you finding being housebound at the moment?

Honestly, it is exhausting BUT I love it! Spending quality time with my kids are such a blessing and being able to play an learn with them all day long is a bonus.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Not everyday is going to be perfect and run smoothly, sometimes you have to follow the child, do what you can, keep activities as simple as possible and join in on the fun! Allow them to make a mess when it’s messy play!

Has the HWK community helped?

I think it is a wonderful platform for sharing and making a difference! I think you are doing a wonderful job!
