Rachael and family, from the Fens in the UK, show us how they made this great crazy golf course in their garden.

What did you do?

My name is Rachael. I have recently been furloughed and have an 8 and a nearly 10 year – she will not allow me to say 9 anymore…..its 2 months away.

We live in the Fens which is famously known for being flat! As lovely as it is, it can get very boring when out on walks, and it’s hard enough to keep my kids from turning to their technology and be present in this very strange time – which actually does have a positive to it bringing more quality home time.

Normally I am hidden behind work a lot of the time and I’m actually loving being able to be creative, get involved, and be silly! So creating homemade crazy golf was a great afternoon for us.

We did 7 holes to complete. Things we used included:

  • Old pipes
  • Planks of wood
  • Spades
  • Plant pots
  • Skateboard
  • And anything else we could find in our shed and garden.

My husband normally plays golf so we were fortunate to have clubs and balls already, but I’m sure tennis balls, ping pong balls, sticks, or bats would work just as well.

We tried to make the next hole harder than the one before to make it the same as normal crazy golf and scored as we would normally.

Not only was this fun for all of us (and got my pair off their technology) it allowed them to be creative. The kids were fully involved in designing each hole and even made some of them better then I had originally imagined.

We hope that this simple idea will be as much fun for others as it was for us. We have also had our sports day with basketball, racing, egg & spoon race, simple but lots of fun.

What do you think of the community?

I think pages, groups & sites bringing ideas together at this time are amazing! We are all in the same boat and as time goes on it gets harder and harder to come up with ideas and stay in a routine – so a great way to share with everyone and see what amazing things others have been up to.
