Emily, from Australia, sent in this lovely activity. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

Make a simple yet effective activity for your little ones, right at home, using recycled materials. This little ladybug game is perfect to have fun while learning.

Materials:
-Cardboard
– coloured pen
– scissors

Step 1) simply draw out your leaf stencil onto cardboard, and cut out.

Step 2) cut out smaller circles for your little lady beetles, make as many as you like.

Step 3) colour in your Ladybeetles with a marker. And your activity is complete! Now let’s count the ladybeetles!

Tip: A marker is a better option to colour the cardboard; sometimes when using paint, the cardboard will bend.

This activity is great for kids all ages. My daughter who is 18 months old loved it. You can incorporate extra motor skills by adding on some play tongs, to pick up the lady beetles.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

Hi, my name is Emily and my daughter is 18 months old. We live in beautiful Australia. We’re always finding new ways to help my daughter learn through play. We love the idea of recycling our cardboard, and turning it into a fun activity / craft for my daughter to explore. We hope you love our simple lady beetle craft as much as we do.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

It can be difficult for many families who are home bound right now to maintain positivity and motivation for their children’s learning. I completely understand, and encourage you to take a moment to breathe. Even home bound, we are still role models for our children and it’s important to remain calm and kind. I am so grateful that I’m able to stay home with my daughter and watch her grow. She is my inspiration, and I love bonding with her through learn and play.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Just remember, you are your children’s inspiration, as much as they are yours. It’s extremely hard for children to understand what is going on in the world right now; if you’re struggling to balance working from home and parenting, stop and breathe.
Try and come up with a schedule, plan your children’s activities the night before so you know exactly what to set up the next morning. Take a moment before you go to bed each night to reflect on your day, name something you’re grateful for each day, and what you wish to achieve tomorrow. Don’t be too hard on yourself, we’re all human.

Has this website and community helped you?

I think this is a really lovely website to help parents navigate their way through learning and teaching at home. It’s filled with fantastic ideas from people all around the world, who are inspiring one another.
