Homemade Halloween decorations are great; here we show you how to make loo roll bats. Be as creative as you want, and then can hang them around your home.

Thanks to Jessica, from North Wales, who sent in this great loo roll bat idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

We made bats – for Halloween!

To make a bat you will need:
Paint,
Empty loo rolls,
Card,
Scissors
and glue.

Instructions: First cut a wing shape out if the card for your bats.
Then go crazy with the paint on the wings and loo roll.
Once dry, fold two sides on the top and bottom of the loo roll so they meet in the middle and create two points (for ears and feet).
Glue the wings on the back and draw/paint on some funky faces!

We like to glue some string to them and hang them from the ceiling!

My children found it very fun being so creative with their bats, making them all different colours and styles. They especially loved seeing them hung around the house!

A photo of 3 home made cardboard bats, coloured blue, burple, black and white. there are three bottles of paint on the table too.

Do you have any other projects planned?

Paper plate ghosts!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Lots of crafts, get creative! Having a bit of structure helps too!

What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?

My eldest two love monopoly, but together we all love headbands and sum swamp ( which is a fantastic maths board game.)

What are your children’s favourite books?

My 9 year old son loves dog man and the investigator, any comic style book.
My 8 year old daughter loves Roald Dahl and David Walliams.
My 5 year old son is currently learning to read and has taken a liking to the jelly and bean books.

What toys would you recommend to other parents?

Lego, Playmobil, knex and any character figures. You can be so so creative with any of these, my eldest likes to build space stations with his never ending supply of Lego. Expensive but a great investment.

Has this website and community helped you?

It’s a wonderful website with lots of helpful information.
