Tell us a bit about yourself…

My name is Justina. I am a single Mum. I have 2 kids – one is 3.5 and the other is 1.5. I am originally from Lithuania but have lived in the UK for around 8 years.

What did you do?

For this activity, Mummy prepared eggs in the morning, emptied the eggs (later made a cake), and washed eggshells before leaving them to dry.

Later on, we went to the fields next to our house and picked different types of flowers and leaves that we could find.

We came back home and broke all of the flowers and leaves into small pieces and the kids filled eggshells with them how they wanted.

Then, we poured water into the eggshells so that they were full up, and we left them in the freezer for a few hours.

In the evening we took the eggshells out from the freezer and cracked them.

There you have it! We have got lovely iced eggs! Hopefully, the kids had the patience to see what we made.

Do you have any tips?

You may want to put on some gloves before cracking eggshells as it’s not easy to do and very cold!

What is next?

We are trying something new every day, but for now Mummy hasn’t decided on another project as kids are spending most of the time in the garden playing with water!

How are you finding this lockdown?

This period is really not easy for all of us, especially those who have kids. Usually, when my kids are off nursery and we are free we are constantly going somewhere, and now it isn’t possible to go to the park, so it is hard to keep them occupied.

Has the community helped?

Housebound With Kids is a really good community as we can share our experience regarding what to do with kids, how to make our life easier and keep them happy.
