Marilyn and Finn, from Wiltshire, show us how to make our own pretend lava. It is impossible not to enjoy lava experiments. Fact! Let’s take a look…

You will need:

  • oil
  • water
  • food colouring
  • effervescent tablet (any sort of tablet that releases gas when mixed with liquid)

Instructions:

  1. Pour oil into a glass
  2. Add a little water
  3. Next add a couple of drops of food colouring
  4. Drop your tablet in
  5. Watch it!

It worked really well and was lots of fun.

What else has been keeping you busy?

We have made lots of rockets, a sock puppet video, lots of varieties of nature walks with scavenger hunts, spent time in the kitchen and tonnes of water play.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m Mommy Marilyn with my miracle boy Finn who is 8. He is my world. He was born in Tenerife and we moved back to the UK at the age of 3 where we have settled in Wiltshire.

How are you finding being housebound with kids so far?

Keeping a homeschooling routine Monday to Friday has worked for us, with fun at the weekends. A big nature walk once a week. Time spent in the garden and regular video calls with friends and school has helped feel connected.

Any tips to help people when they are housebound with kids?

Your all doing amazing as long as you are safe and together. Make sure you have plenty of snacks and try not to stress about the little things i.e. how untidy is my house lol.
