Claire, from Crewe, Cheshire, created this lovely magnetic pressed flower frame keepsake. Let’s take a look at how she did it…

What did you do?

My children and I picked a few flowers from our garden and our walks during lockdown. We wanted to keep them forever as a reminder of this time. We pressed and dried them, then framed them in a magnetic photo frame.

The tricky part was arranging the flowers before we pressed them! We wanted to see the whole flower, not the flower from the side, so we pressed each one individually, between pieces of card, and put them in between the pages of a heavy book.

We used tweezers to arrange the petals.

We picked the bluebell from our garden as it’s illegal to pick wild, native bluebells.

We used a magnetic photo frame from Amazon.

Do you have any other projects planned?

We are always crafting!!! I make pebble pictures, and pictures with buttons on my Facebook page, Clairescrafts1972. We often paint pebbles too.

During lockdown we made a bug hotel and a pallet plant shelf…we’ve been keeping busy!

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Claire and I’m a school teacher in Cheshire. I live with my husband and two children, my son aged 5 and my daughter is aged 6.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

We have been okay during lockdown to be honest! My parents live on the next estate. My children have both learned to ride their bikes during lockdown so we’ve been able to cycle past my parents’ house and give them a wave!

I’ve been working on a rota in school with the key workers’ children and Setting work online for my class. I’ve also been doing some volunteering work by shopping for vulnerable people in my community.

The children have been doing a little school work each day but we’ve been trying to go on walks and things too!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Don’t beat yourself up for not doing more with your children. They just need to feel safe and loved!

I’ve seen some amazing activities and idea for families on the internet and Facebook, but I also know of people who have really struggled. We shouldn’t ‘beat ourselves up’…we are all doing the best we can.
