With Halloween approaching, we love to share with you crafts that you can enjoy at home. Here we show you how to make mini brooms – filled with treats!

With thanks to Sarah, from Cornwall, for sending in this great mini treat broom idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

We made our own mini treat brooms. These mini treat brooms add a little extra surprise to the Halloween fun.

You will need:

Brown paper, scissors, twine, sweets, lolly sticks (or normal sticks), and a ruler.

Instructions:

Step 1: Measure a 9×9 square and cut it out.
Step 2: Use a spice pot to hold the shape while you gather the sides of the paper.
Step 3: Once all the sides are gathered remove the pot and pop in your treats.
Step 4: Cut the top off to make a straight edge and then cut shirt strips into the top to create a ‘fray’ effect.
Step 5: Put your stick in and wrap twine 2 or 3 times around and tie a tight not to secure the stick.

I love the fun and little surprise that children won’t expect.

Do you have any other projects planned?

Recycled Halloween tins.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Sarah and I live in Cornwall with my partner and 5-year-old son.
We currently home educate and love the freedom we get learning through life. Arts and crafts are a big part of our life. We also love being in nature.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Keep everything you would usually recycle. Almost anything can be made into something. During lockdown, my son requested a castle. The same box castle then became, a rocket and a pet shop.

What are your children’s favourite books?

I am an Usborne Independent Organiser so we are very lucky to have lots of lovely books.

What toys would you recommend to other parents?

Lego is great for the imagination and motor skills.
