Cheryl, from Cornwall, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

My husband was supposed to be at Download festival this weekend. He works so hard and really looks forward to this and was gutted when he couldn’t go. We decided to bring the festival to home. Lockdown Download 2020.

All the things we planned worked out luckily apart from the weather put a dampener on things but I already had plan B to bring those things inside. When he came through the door we had his camping bag ready with sleeping bag etc in. We had bought a festival band which my daughter scanned. He got Download Dollars and vouchers for a t-shirt, lanyard and cup.

The lounge by the TV area was made into the main stage with a barrier around it. Next was the VIP area with actual glasses, VIP Wifi code and a comfy bean bag to chill. Onto the fair we had a spinney chair of doom (very scary), Downlaod tin can alley and pin the nose on the Download dog.

We made a merchandise stall so he could exchange his vouchers for merchandise the lanyard had the schedule for Download TV so we could watch some of the bands he would have seen. He bought drinks and food using his Download dollars.

We had proper festival food all weekend pulled pork, burgers, hot dogs and of course ice-cream finishing off with a giant Yorkshire pudding on Sunday. We had put out bunting and a tent (to wet to camp though) and a guide rope maze. He loved it and said he will always have great memories. The best thing is the children helped plan and put it all together we all got fully into the festival mode. It was a cracking weekend. Something to take our minds off what is going on in the world.

Do you have any other projects planned?

It’s my birthday and Father’s Day this week so planning on afternoon tea and pamper day. My favourite thing to do.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Cheryl. I have a 15 year old son (year 10) and 11 year old daughter (year 6) and a heavy metal loving husband. We live in Cornwall UK.  Myself and husband have our own business together so he has not stopped working throughout.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

I feel lucky as my children are older. They have been so good doing school work in the morning and bike riding in the afternoon. Of course they both have their moments where they bicker. It took a little while to get in to the new routine of being at home but then it just became the norm.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Talk to each other. We all had bad days sometimes on the same day (watch out then) We learn very quickly to leave each other alone on those days.

Has being part of our community helped you?

It’s so great to see other people ideas. You can then adapt them to your family and take bits and pieces from each idea. We have painted a lot of rainbows and done lots of pavement chalk drawing.
