Lucie, from Scotland, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

*Please exercise caution when collecting flowers- some may be poisonous*

The idea behind Nature Kid was to make use of natural materials that we find on our daily walks and use them in play.
On our walk we collected a variety of flowers and leaves and took them home with us. I then drew a simple template of a little character (I like to think of him as a mischievous little elf who lives in the forest!) and then let my child design his hair and outfit using the flowers and foliage we had collected. It’s a great activity to allow your child to explore their imagination.

A bonus of this activity is that we can do it again and again using the same template giving him different outfits and hair/ hat choices. Perhaps one for each season would be nice, the colours of autumn leaves would like great I think!

Do you have any other projects planned?

Would love to make some bunting using natural materials for our garden shed! I really want to decorate our garden more so am researching crafty ways to do this.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m Lucie and I have two little wild boys aged 3 and 1. They keep me on my toes as they are full of energy and we loving nothing more than exploring new places and going on walks. We live in Scotland and also have two cats. I work part time for a cancer charity which is my dream job and also allows me to spend a lot of time with my kids.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Being housebound during lockdown has been challenging for sure but I try to keep my eldest busy by planning at least 1 activity to do each day. My youngest is happiest copying his older brother and playing in the garden. So thankful that for the most part, we have been blessed with good weather during lockdown!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

I would say just don’t be too hard on yourself! And try and get out in the garden or for a walk if you can for at least an hour each day, fresh air makes all the difference and makes the kids sleep better at night too!
