Kiaha, from Somerset UK, shows us how to create beautiful nature potions. Let’s take a look…

What did you do?

We made nature potions. To make the potions we used:
☆wild flowers
☆oat milk (this is lovely for adding another element to waterplay it swirls in and creates a lovely bright colour)
☆water and a few drops of food colouring
☆salt for sprinkling

With these types of activities I like to let her have all the ingredients on the table and she can add them all herself, great for so many skills giving them the control over how they use them.

Pouring is one of our go-to activities as its quick to set up, not too messy and she always enjoys it.

If we ever have a day where we are feeling a little unmotivated a walk and some wildflower picking never fails to inspire us to get creative. (be careful what flowers you pick as some are poisonous).

The oat milk really is a must we use it in all of our water play now lovely to pour in or use a pipette to create swirls of vivid colour.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

Hi, I am Kiaha. I am a mum to Tabitha who is nearly 2. We are from Somerset in the UK. I started my instagram play account at the beginning of covid19 for something to keep us motivated throughout, what I didn’t realise was how much I would love creating things for my daughter and sharing them for others to enjoy. Its been so lovely to enjoy all this time with her and connect with other families in the same position.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Not having the pressure of being anywhere has been great, we have more good days than hard days. Although I am back to work this week so things are going to be a little different for us from now, hope I still get some quality time at home.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Routine has been our saviour! I wrote a loose one when we first started and we have stuck to it most days, find having something to move onto makes the time pass quicker and keeps us both stimulated throughout the day. Being busy is easier than doing nothing for us.

Has this website and community helped you?

So many great ideas and tips, love being inspired by other peoples play.
