Aparna, from India and living in New Jersey USA, sent in this great number and shapes recognition activity idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

I got a cardboard box and made holes in it. (little and big ones – so that different shapes card can drop into it) .

Write the shape on each hole.

Cut the cardboard in different shapes (small once to fit into the holes)and write numbers on it.

Each number should be of one shape only I.e. 1 is triangle and 2 is for square.

Then guide your child to drop the number cards into the holes made on the box where the shapes were written on it accordingly.

Ask them to say it loudly the number and shapes while dropping it.

Kids learn best while having fun.

Recognition of numbers support the development of other number skills, such as counting 1,2,3,4…

Recognition of shapes helps kids understand other signs and symbols.

Dropping the small cards into the hole is fun and here they not only learn about the numbers but also learn about different shapes.

Do you have any other projects planned?

Alphabets recognition.
