Vivi, who lives in Hebburn in the UK, has been really creative recently. This time, she shows us how she managed to upcycle an old shirt into this fabulous mini-dress for her daughter…

Tell us how you made the mini-dress…

  1. I started by measuring and marking roughly where to cut using my daughter’s pinafore dress as a template.
  2. Then I started to sew both sides of the dress.
  3. Then I folded a little and sewed around the arm bit (so it won’t look rough from the cutting).
  4. Then I sewed it together to the shoulder bit.
  5. To finish, I cut the collar from the old shirt and sewed it on to the dress.

Do you have any tips for others trying this?

What to remember is, perhaps, to try to sew around the arm bit first because I realised it looked rough after I sewed both sides of the dress.

Do you have any more projects lined up?

I’m thinking about turning my daughter’s baby grows into a keepsake blanket.

Tell us a little about yourself…

My name is Vivi and i originally came from Indonesia, but now I live permanently in the UK, in a small town called Hebburn in the north-east of England. I live with my partner and my (nearly) 3 years old daughter.

Since lockdown started, I have found that my brain is almost going into overdrive as I have so many ideas popping into my head. It’s a good thing though since I cant going anywhere!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Just try to enjoy the time you have and try to do things that, either you always want to do, or never do :).

I love how Housebound with Kids has so many ideas and activities to do that will inspire a lot of people, including me. I think you are brilliant. 🙂
