Ginger, from California, made this mud-free mud bath for her little one (and farm animals) to play with. Let’s see how we can do it too…

What you will need:

  • hot cocoa mix
  • water
  • a pig figurine
  • a small scoop or shovel
  • any other farm toys you want to include.

Instructions:

Add water a little bit at a time until you get the desired consistency.

My 2 year old son loved rolling the pig over and shoveling “mud” around. This play scene was ideal for me, because the set up was so simple.

I love all of the sensory boxes I see online, but they are often elaborate and I need some things that I can put together quickly.

At 2 years old, my son will usually mix all of the items from a project together within seconds and then he becomes bored. So, for now, it’s better to come up with a lot of simple activities rather than spend a significant amount of time on one thing.

What is next?

We’re going to keep playing around with pantry items, because it is inexpensive and easy to prepare.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

My name is Ginger Hill. I live in the United States (California). I’m a stay-at-home mother of two boys, ages 2 (almost 3) and 6 months.

I find being housebound with kids to be a positive experience, but it requires constant adaptation. The most challenging thing is not having our usual outdoor activities to burn off energy.

We miss playgrounds, pools, zoos, and theme parks. But it is easier not having to make those transitions all of the time.

We have more time to focus and more flexibility. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with messes, but I have realized that I can’t keep up with housework during the day and be in the moment enough for 2 young kids. So, I give my kids all of my attention during the day and try to catch up on everything else once they’ve gone to bed.
