Jennifer, from South London, shows us her family’s great pizza delivery idea. Let’s take a look…

What did you do?

Josh (12) and Sam (10) decided to create their own pizza menu so they could deliver handmade pizzas to family members.

Step by step / Notes

  • They researched local pizza companies to find out what they had on their delivery menus.
  • Found an easy to make yeast-free dough recipe – https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/no-yeast-pizza-dough.
  • Created a menu – they used PowerPoint to make this and attached pictures. They listed ingredients that we already had in and they also made a list of items that we may be needed to be bought on our weekly shop.
  • They emailed the pizza menus so that the order could be placed.
  • We bought some pizza boxes from a local wholesaler.
  • They created “Thank you” notes to place on top of the boxes.
  • Once they had the order, they created a shopping list of items needed.
  • They arranged for the delivery to be on a Friday at 6pm.
  • On the delivery day they made up the dough and prepared all ingredients ready to make the pizzas.
  • They have now had further orders that they are looking to do in the coming weeks.

Mum and Dad had to help along the way which made this a great bit of family fun.

Do you have any more projects in the pipeline?

Family Sports Day, they are planning a day where we go to a local playing field to have a day playing different sports (we live in a flat so exercise and outside time have been a challenge!). The current list of “events” is Rugby, Cricket, Football, Frisbee, Cycling, Running, and the egg and spoon race. They are also planning what to put in their picnic.

Tell the community a bit about yourself…

We are a family of five who live in south London – Jennifer, Husband – Dan, Children – Eleanor (19), Joshua (12) and Samuel (10).

How are you finding being housebound?

Being an NHS key worker I’ve still been going into work but fortunately my husband has been placed on furloughed leave so has been able to concentrate on homeschooling the boys. We have found it challenging but have found ourselves doing more activities as a family from watching films, playing board games, and going for evening walks.

The boys have found time to learn musical instruments and are also enjoying time in the kitchen cooking both savoury and sweet dishes. We have tried to create as many activities as possible that take up as much time as possible, have educational value, are creative but most of all are fun!!

Do you have any tips to share with other parents?

You will have good days and bad days. Everything you are doing at this time will be making memories for the children and family activities are just as important as academic work, if not more so. Change routine if needed and try to have fun as much as possible in everyday tasks.
