Mary, from Cumbria, sent in her fantastic rainbow shadow art.  Lets take a look…

What did you do?

Inspired by the Lockdown Shadow photos (done earlier in Lockdown) and the Butterfly wings (which is what I bought the cellophane for and did the same day), I decided to write an uplifting message to be a rainbow shadow – “Brighter Things Ahead”.

I wrote “Brighter Things Ahead” on an A3 page from a sketch pad, and cut out with a craft knife and scissors (a bit tricky at times). Then with the missing bits from letters such as ‘O’ I sellotaped them on (the sellotape won’t show in the shadow).

I taped coloured bits of cellophane onto the letters (as they are, the right way round). It doesn’t matter what sort of a mess you make, as no one will see this.

Then finally I got my 6 year old to hold up the sign (on a sunny day), and took photos.

Suitable for all ages really as long as they can hold up a sign, depending on whether you want to do it yourself, or get the children more involved!

It was a really simple project to do, but I should have used more tape on the cellophane as some bits came undone in the breeze. The hardest bit was getting a child to hold the sign up the right way round to get the photo!

Do you have any other projects planned?

Today my 3 year old and I have made a mood jar!

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m Mary, from the UK. I have a 6 year old boy and 3 year old girl.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

It has definitely made me be more creative!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Don’t put stuff in the recyling bin – keep it for projects.
