Sarah, from the UK, has sent in details of this super sensory space that she created for her 3 children. Let’s take a look…

What did you do?

Materials used:

  • Hook & loop tape
  • Led strip lights
  • Bubble light
  • Magic mirror shapes
  • Interlocking foam play
  • Soft play sofa

Hook & loop tape was used to the back of the interlocking foam in order to stick to walls. Magic mirror shapes were also put up in this way.

Led strip lights were used to create gentle lighting coming down from the ceiling. These do come with sticky backing, however simply for extra security to stop it falling down, we also used adhesive cable clips.

The box supporting the bubble light was an old toy box seat, cut as required.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

We are a close family of 5. My husband is a key worker. We have 3 children, 9, 5 and 2. Two of our children have ASD and 1 of the two also has a sleep disorder and ADHD. We are from GB.

How have you been finding this time indoors?

I’ve enjoyed spending all this extra time with our children however due to not be able to go outside and sometimes boredom, tensions have run a little high. Two of my children are accustomed to strict routine (ASD) and lockdown has broken that. Meltdowns have occurred. This space has been created to help soothe their additional needs. We are expanding this area with more soft play equipment, just awaiting arrival.

Has the Housebound with Kids community helped?

We think Housebound with kids is a great platform for parents who maybe at a loss for tips and ideas with keeping the kids entertained or calm during theses usual times.
