Laurene, from Scotland, sent in this great shaving foam writing activity idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

Here is a great way to practice writing sight words, but can also be used for cvc words and sounds or numbers.

Simply show the child what you want them to form. Spray some shaving foam and off they go, trying to form the word.

This is lots of fun and uses sensory experiences to help the child learn how to spell words.

Can be messy though!

I used too much the first time I did this, so I would recommend only using a small amount.

Having what you want the child to copy is paramount.

Do you have any other projects planned?

We are doing maths calculations for the story of 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I am a mum to 2 children – a girl aged 5 and a boy aged 2. I am a Teacher and have been for over 20 years. I am having a career break for this academic year so that I can spend more time with my family.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

It has it’s moments, but honestly I am loving having all the extra time with my children. When at work I was really missing doing fun activities with them and I am so happy that I have had this extra time with them at home.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Be kind to yourself. Life has changed so much for us all. This is so different to what we are used to. We are not used to spending so much time with so few people for such a sustained period of time.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. You can only do so much, everyone’s mental health matters more than anything else. Look after yourself and your family.

Has this website and community helped you?

It’s full of great ideas.
