Cheryl, from West Sussex, talks to us about how her family made this giant Stickman.

What did you do?

My husband and 6-year-old daughter made this Stickman from some bits collected from the woods.

My daughter drilled holes (with supervision) into the ‘body’ for the nose and arms and pushed in the parts. They were then secured with screws.

Stickman needed an extra piece added to his leg so attached a piece of wood by drilling holes in the attaching ends and joined together with a dowel – securing with a screw.

We then added the details:

  • the eyes were drilled a little first just to remove the bark
  • we used white acrylic paint and then a used permanent marker for the pupil
  • The leaves were made from bouncy castle material superglued onto a stick which was then drilled into his head. We tried to make it all weatherproof so he can live in our garden.

What is next?

My husband and daughter have aspirations to make to rest of the Stickman’s family.

Tell us a bit about yourselves and about how you are finding being in the house a lot…

We are a family of 4 from West Sussex in England. We have a 6-year-old daughter and 11-month-old son.

We are finding Lockdown quite refreshing actually, enjoying being able to get decorating and gardening done. Loving having time to do craft projects, like Stickman and baking. My daughter is very good at completing schoolwork and although she is missing her friends we are keeping in touch with them lots via video calls.

We are lucky enough to have a garden and woodland close to the house but going out in the fresh air at least once every day regardless of the weather is something we have always advocated.

We have found the Facebook sites dedicated to ideas for Lockdown invaluable and there are a lot of great ideas out there.
