Tara, from Melbourne Australia, sent in this great toilet roll butterfly idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

These recycled toilet paper butterflies are so easy to make!
Each butterfly uses one toilet roll, so depending on how many you want to make, when you’ve finished the toilet roll, put them aside.

Now, paint the roll. I liked using multiple colours. The metallic paint adds a nice shine to the wings.

When you’ve finished painting and it’s dried, squash the roll flat, then cut out the shape.

Open up the butterfly’s and flatten them out, add a pipe cleaner for the body and you’re done! You’ve got some beautiful recycled butterfly’s.

I loved the colours blending together, and my toddlers excitement when we had finished making the butterfly’s. We decided to add magnets to them and they are now sitting nicely on the fridge.

I also love using recycled materials for our projects, so this was perfect!

Do you have any other projects planned?

I have so many different ideas.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m Tara, mother of 2 beautiful boys Luca and Evan. I’m from Melbourne, Australia. I love finding new and different ways to play and learn with my boys.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

My tip would be to take it easy. Don’t be too hard on yourself during this time. The kids lives have also changed quite dramatically, so just take it one moment at a time.

What are your children’s favourite books?

Luca is loving interactive books. Anything that has lift the flaps, pull and slide the pages or pop out pages is a winner!

Evan is enjoying the sensory books, anything with a crinkle page, different textures and bright colours!

Has this website and community helped you?

I love all the different ideas! I’m definitely going to try a few with the kids.
