Lisa, from Australia, sent in this “egg”celent craft idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

This activity is to create a cute flower garden out of an egg carton, complete with little snails.

What you need:
– egg carton
– straws
– patty pans
– Pom poms
– scissors
– double sided tape

How to create:
1. Cut off the pointy parts of the egg carton so that it sits flat when turned upside down (save those bits for later).
2. Keep the egg carton upside down and make holes along where you want the flowers.
3. Fold a patty pan in half and cut two small slits into the middle of the patty pan.
4. Weave a straw in and out of the slit so the patty pan sits at the top of the straw.
5. Put some double sided tape in the centre and stick a Pom Pom inside (the tape will hold the straw in place and the Pom Pom.
6. Repeat with steps 3-5 for each flower.
7. Poke the straw into the egg carton holes made previously.
8. Using double sided tape on the straw, cut a patty pan into leaf shapes and stick them on the straw (repeat for all flowers).
9. Use the egg carton off cuts as a shell for the snails – make a hole on either side, cut a peice of straw and thread it through (prefferebly a straw with those bendy sections).
10. Cut the top of the straw in two to make the snail antenna and then decorate the shell.

We found that after a few days the Pom poms fell off so we used PVA glue to stick them back on instead.

Do you have any other projects planned?

I am currently collecting all the bits and pieces to make a little cardboard box aquarium.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, right!? Spending quality time with the kids has been wonderful and not leaving the house has forced us to come up with new ways to keep busy. We are definitely thankful that we live in a lovely spot to enjoy walks and that we have a big backyard. I have found myself spending more money online shopping for this to keep the kids entertained lol.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Everyone loves a good song and dance! It can brighten anyone’s mood 🙂

Has this website and community helped you?

I love that there are a range of ideas to help keep busy and it’s so easy to find them!
