Marianne, from Hampshire, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?
These cute little fizzing stars are sensory play and a science experiment all rolled into one simple activity! ⁣

All you need is some ingredients from the cupboard. This was the ‘recipe’ I used:⁣

⭐ 1/2 cup of baking soda⁣
⭐ 2 tablespoons of water⁣
⭐ food coloring⁣

Mix the water (I added a few drops of food colouring to the water to help the colour take) with the baking soda until it forms a semi dry crumbly texture. Then press into your mould or cookie cutter. Place them in the freezer for about 30 minutes. That helps the dough form together better. Pop them into a container and fill a cup with some vinegar to use with the pipette. ⁣

You can tailor this activity to the age/ability of your child by varying the size of the dropper. Jumbo droppers are better suited to little ones, whereas eye droppers are great for kids who are more confident in their fine motor skills. ⁣

Eye droppers are brilliant for isolating the fingers used for writing, ⁣
strengthening hand muscles, practicing coordination, control and handwriting!

Do you have any other projects planned?

Pastel slime
Fairy garden tuff tray
Floral weaving
