Heidi, from England, had this great idea for slow-motion floating rice words art. It looks great. Thanks for sharing Heidi!

You will need:

  • Rice
  • A blanket or sheet (to catch the rice if you need to do it again)
  • A board to spell out a word in rice
  • A camera with slow-motion recording

Instructions:

  1. Spell out a word on the board using the rice (make sure the word is thick enough).
  2. Set up your camera or phone camera (forward-facing) or get someone ready to record in slow motion.
  3. Have the bottom of the word facing you, hold out the board and when you’ve started recording raise the board up making the letters fly into the air (there is a knack to this you might need to try a couple of times to get a feel for it).
  4. Scoop rice up off the blanket and watch the recording back to see how you’ve done.

It may take time to get the flipping technique. I had to help my daughter as she tried twice and couldn’t do it. We used short words like NHS, Love and Hope.

We’re thinking of trying the rice with making pictures to see what happens

Tell us a bit about yourself…

My name is Heidi. I have 3 children, two Girls and a Boy Aged 14, 8 and 1. I live in England.
We love being home doing arts and crafts and spending time together. We do miss the outdoors and our adventures. We have only just started to go outside for walks.

Do you have any tips for other parents that are housebound?

We love to find arts and crafts on Pinterest and YouTube to make at home we also love watching Africam on youtube and seeing what is at the watering hole each day and remember not to be so hard on yourself! This is a time to spend with each other to make memories
