Joanne and her 2 girls made this giant beanstalk. Let’s take a look and see if we can find any giants!

Materials used:

  • Green paint
  • 3 kitchen rolls
  • 10 toilet rolls
  • 2 sheets of painted green A4 paper rolled into tubes (as they are lighter in weight for the top)
  • Draw leaves (different sizes) to paint and cut out
  • Lots of Sellotape.

We used a Fredo tin tube at the bottom to attach the first kitchen roll to and then gradually added each roll starting with the kitchen rolls as they were heavier, then the toilet rolls then the paper for the top.

We stuck larger leaves at the bottom and gradually went smaller with the smallest leaves at the top.

Then did a few drawings of characters and objects from the story and labeled them as this was great for a spelling and writing exercise.

Any plans for more projects?

Our next project is to build a scarecrow for our local Village competition. We have not chosen our theme yet but think it may be Italian style as we are a half English and half Italian family and we own the local Italian restaurant in Ainsworth Village, Casalingo.

Tell us a little about yourself…

My name is Joanne and my daughters are Giovanna 5 and Ilaria 3.

Anything else you can tell us?

We’ve been having a lot of fun at home and trying to make the most of this time as we know we won’t get it again. We’ve done lots of art and crafts and spent lots of time in the garden and going for long walks in the countryside where we live. We’ve also spent a lot of time relaxing in PJs watching tv and the tablets.

The Housebound With Kids community has been great as it makes you realise it’s ok to have ups and downs and that we are all in this together. It’s also been fantastic for tips on things to do and suggestions on where to buy certain arts crafts and games online.
