Jackie, from Lincoln, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

I wanted to celebrate my daughters achievement (and my own!) of completing 12 weeks of homeschooling throughout the lockdown period. Why not turn something negative into something positive?!

So I had fun drawing a huge sign complete with a rainbow theme and messages. I made a simple rainbow bunting with ribbon. Turned her existing Harry Potter cloak into a gown by rolling the sleeves and sewing a rainbow badge. Made a really simple mortar board hat using white card and sprayed it black, adding rainbow ribbon. Printed a graduation certificate off google, rolled and ribboned. Had some graduation themed cupcakes made… and voila! My daughter was surprised and felt so proud of herself. It was magical to see.

I found drawing the sign easy as I currently have my own signage business. So this aspect came easy to me. But I am not great with sewing. So I used pritt-stick to make the ribbon badge for her gown.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Jackie and I’m the proud mum to four beautiful, lively, sassy children! We have an 8 month old, a 6 year old, a 13 year old and a 17 year old. I own and run an Art and Signage business called Bespoke Chick and I am also an Art teacher of 15 years. Our days are very busy!

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Being housebound with the children has been lovely, awful, tiring, rewarding and crazy all at the same time! I’m sure many can relate. Being parent and teacher has had its ups and downs! We have coped in a gentle relaxed way but held it together with a flexible daily routine and timetable.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

It helped us to have a timetable to follow and lots of small rewards too throughout the day. Some days we had to throw it all out the window and some days it took us three times as long to do one simple thing. But most of all we were kind to ourselves and my husband and I had to work excellently as a team.

Has being part of our community helped you?

I’ve only come across HouseBoundwithKids recently but it is a fantastic resource and so relatable for many.
