Here we show you how to make your own garden chalkboards. A great messy play creation for your little artists to enjoy outside!

Thanks to Stephanie, who sent in this great garden chalkboard idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

Firstly I bought a wooden MDF shape, I chose hearts and stars for my daughter and thinking of adding a flower shape too.

I then painted it using outdoor curprinol paint and black chalkboard paint in the centre.

I then attached them to our garden fence and let my daughter draw on them.

Do you have any other projects planned?

I have a few things lined up.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Stephanie, I am 27 and from Glasgow. I work in a nursery and have a daughter who is almost 1.
I am finding lockdown okay. It feels like an extended maternity leave for me and I’m grateful we can have family time as a three and not have to miss out on a lot of developmental stages with our first child. @x_the_messy_mama_x

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Sometimes less is more. Don’t whack out 4/5 activities a day, spread them out, spend some time in nature, on a walk, on a bike or in the garden.

Has this website and community helped you?

I think it’s a great way for parents to connect and share ideas that they may not have seen or attempted as they feel it’s too difficult or time-consuming, but then see it broken down into steps and realise they too could do a lot of activities and projects on a budget with a lot of things they would already find in their homes.
