Laura, from Chalgrove, Oxfordshire, had a pirate party. Let’s jump aboard…

What did you do?

My daughter saw an article in her activity book of how the create a chocolate treasure chest, which is where the idea started.

We created some pirate themed food: Treasure Map Pizza, Pirate Ships (Hot Dogs) & Dead Mans Fingers (Veggie Sticks) with Quicksand (Houmous).

We made a Palm Tree bowling alley from some empty bottles & used a coconut for a bowling ball. We had our own parrot who sat on the tree in the sand pit.

The children enjoyed searching for treasure with our homemade map.

The best part was The Pirate Plank. My 2 loved being made to Walk the Plank into the paddling pool.

Do you have any other projects planned?

Next up, we are looking at having a Space Tea Party.

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

My name is Laura & my partner is called Richard. We have 2 children, Rhys who turned 10 on 20th March, as Lockdown began & Imogen who is 5, turning 6 next month. We live in a small village called Chalgrove, in South Oxfordshire.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Trying to work full time from home as a receptionist, whilst still have to answer the work phone can sometimes be a bit difficult but people have been very understanding, that there may be the sound of bickering children in the background!! We have tried to keep to a schedule to have some consistency for everyone but some days that goes completely out the window and we just freestyle it.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Enjoy spending time as a family as much as you can. Utilise what you have, you do not need to spend a fortune on your children, as they always go back to play with the simplest of things.
