Hayley, from Surrey, had fun at the playdough cafe. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

I set up a a role play cafe for the boys to play with and gave them playdough to make food and drinks with. We used both pre-made playdough as well as making our own. For this we used a very simple recipe:

8 tbsp plain flour
2 tbsp salt
60ml warm water
1 tbsp vegetable oil
We then chose different scents & food colourings to add in as well. The boys’ favourite was putting in hot chocolate powder!

We already had a playdoh “waffle maker” and a toy coffee machine and toy till for them to use. We set up the outdoor cafe so that there was a food making area, a till area and a picnic table.

We set this activity up out in the garden, but it is something that could definitely be done inside as well.

The boys played so nicely together for a good couple of hours! They took in turns to be the chef, the customer and the till operator. It was lovely to see what they would make with the playdough and “serve” to each other, and was also interesting to see how much they would “charge” for each thing they made. My favourite part was when I, as the customer, paid 3 pennies for a waffle with strawberries and a coffee…and got a lemon cupcake thrown in for free!! We all had so much fun playing with this set up and even making the playdough beforehand was fun.
