Louise, from Bournemouth, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

We picked some wildflowers in a socially distant walk, the flowers were a couple of days off being “past their best”. We pressed them in pages of a heavy book for 14 days (using a4 paper to protect the book pages).
I purchased an acrylic/magnetic frame, arranged the flowers with the expert help of my 6 year old and hand stamped a message on paper.

The flowers have to be REALLY WELL PRESSED as if they are too thick, the magnets in the frame don’t meet and the frame falls apart!

Tell the Housebound With Kids community a bit about yourself…

I’m 46, work in social services and have a 6 year old son. I’m working from home during the pandemic and balancing work with homeschooling.

How are you finding being housebound so far?

Generally, it’s been “ok”. Being the only child at home he does miss the company of his peers and it can be hard work keeping him entertained!

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Structure and routine! On weekdays, my son knows there is an expectation of doing “school work” and that treats such as iPad time and watching tv won’t happen unless the school work has been done.
Also, free you tube drawing/painting tutorials for kids have been great! It usually keeps young minds busy for a bit, and using their creativity.

Has being part of our community helped you?

Always great to hear what others are doing!
