Kalista, from San Jose, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

A DIY playhouse that features double arched doors, scalloped edges, cute windows, planter boxes, a little chimney and even solar panels! On the back, I made it an art space. A frame with a top opening so you can slide a new sheet of paper in and a little box for markers. She’s also welcomed to draw all over the house (can you spot the snails?)

Apart from pretend play, this house also served as a retreat space when she feels overwhelmed. She’ll take her friends, including Alfred the snail in there and have conversations. She’s also used it as a reading nook.

We made most of the house together. The finer details like the scallop edges and solar panels, I drew and cut them while she was napping and we glued them on together. One of the planter boxes fell off once, so it needed more hot glue.
