Christine, from Mexico and living in France, sent in this great rainbow salt idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

This is a fun and easy to make sensory play idea. Also a great way to learn about colour mixing!
All you need is salt and food colouring. I prepared the salt in advance to let it dry a bit before my son played with it. I whizzed the salt until it was super fine and then split the salt into bowls.

I used food colouring and added a few drops at a time until I got the shades I was after. I only used blue, red and yellow and mixed around a bit to get the different colours.

This was fun to set up and my son loved filling them with different colours and then giving them a shake to see the colour change! He was amazed and kept doing it over and over again. Every time he was done with a mixture he would empty it into a bigger glass jar I had provided for him and he would start mixing colours all over again! So much learning and exploring in this one little activity!

Do you have any other projects planned?

I am looking out for new ideas to try out with my kids all the time. We are all about learning through play and love anything to do with nature. Sensory play, water play and experimenting with colours are always our next project.
