Nicole, from Saskatchewan in Canada, sent in this great idea. Let’s take a look at it…

What did you do?

The ladybug body was cut from red and black felt and assembled with a hot glue gun. I freehand cut a bunch of circles in different sizes to represent the spots on the ladybug’s shell. Have your little one roll the dice and place the corresponding number of spots on the ladybug. For older children: use two die, one for each wing, and practice addition!

It’s a great way to introduce the idea of dice games, practice counting and basic sums and can be reused forever! You need minimal items to throw this together – I made this during lock down with scraps from our craft box.

Do you have any tips for other parents?

Messy play is always a win. Do it outside, in the shower or bathtub to make clean up easier!

What are your family’s favourite board game(s)/card game(s)?

We’ve played guess who too many times to count. Fun twist: replace the faces with pictures of your friends and family.

What are your children’s favourite books?

Too many to pick! Anything by Julia Donaldson is a safe bet!

What toys would you recommend to other parents?

Anything open ended! We love Connetix tiles, Grimm’s building materials and of course our Flisat table.

Has this website and community helped you?

There are so many great activities! It’s definitely a source of inspiration to keep my littles busy.
